Paintings With a Lot of Life and a Lot of Heart

mbThere are some bold and beautiful paintings on the walls of Cowork Waldo this month. And it’s more than just the color palette that makes these paintings so special. They have been created by a very talented young artist, Matthew Breedlove.

Matthew is a Leawood, Kansas teenager whose bright and colorful paintings exude energy and life. Diagnosed with autism at the age of 2, Matthew has always expressed himself through his artistic endeavors, whether it is making his own crayons, watercolor cityscapes, or his latest bold and energized acrylic canvases. His use of the palette knife and wide array of dynamic and lively colors have won him a loyal and local following in recent years, and his loved ones are anxious to see what the future holds as he continues to grow as an artist. When asked how he feels when he paints, Matthew simply says, ” When I paint, I feel happy.”

You are invited to come see Matthew’s beautiful artwork and support a terrific cause at our Art Show & Benefit on Saturday, June 11th from 6-9 pm. You can purchase a one-of-a-kind Matthew Breedlove Work of Art at the Art Show or anytime through the end of July while Matthew’s work is displayed at Cowork Waldo.

Matthew and his family are proud to announce that 50% of the proceeds will be donated to The Mike Breedlove Foundation. The Mike Breedlove Foundation is a memorial fund dedicated to assisting Kansas City families with children on the autism spectrum. The Foundation was set up to remember Mike Breedlove, an executive at Cerner Corporation who, following his grandson Matthew’s autism diagnosis in 2003, dedicated himself to helping local families find educational, academic and social programs in the Kansas City community. The funds will be earmarked for scholarships, camp tuition or other areas to help service our local autism community. The other 50% will go to purchase more art supplies so that Matthew can continue making beautiful art.
